PILATES SUCCESS STORIES

Pilates is such a versatile form of exercise that incorporates the mind, body and spirit. Anyone can do Pilates, whatever their goal. Check out what these lovely people below have to say about their experience with Pilates and see how it has made a difference in their lives.

PILATES HELPED ME GET THROUGH PREGNANCY

When Kimberly found out she found out she was pregnant, her program was altered with more focus placed on strengthening the legs and arms in order to help her with her growing baby and the challenge of carrying a child around all day once it was born.

She said it helped her to maintain pelvic stability even though the hormone relaxin (released as a result of the pregnancy) caused the pelvis to be more unstable than it usually is. Leading up to the birth she increased her sessions to help her to prepare for the birth and plans to continue once she has given birth.

PILATES ALLOWS ME TO MANAGE MY SCOLIOSIS AND BACK PAIN

When Anna confirmed that she had scoliosis, she found that Pilates made her more aware of what was going on with her body. With Pilates, she was able to manage the pain and discomfort that she experienced, including back pain with the correct exercises. These exercises focused on strengthening different parts of her back and helping alleviate the twinges that occured as a result.

She now has very little back pain and finds that her overall health and wellbeing has improved.

PILATES IMPROVED MY MENTAL WELLBEING

James started Pilates as a way to relax after long hours of work and to get his body into better shape. He was looking for something that would get him fit more gradually and was conscious of the fact that slogging it out at the gym for an hour every week might cause more harm.

He finds Pilates to be a very rewarding form of exercise and has noticed that it has helped to improve not only his physical state but also his mental and emotional states.

PILATES HAS IMPROVED MY GOLF

Linka is a keen golfer who plays golf regularly, up to three times a week. She really enjoys Pilates as it makes her feel stronger overall. It has been hugely beneficial for her golf game. Since doing Pilates, her handicap has come down, she hits the ball better and does not get affected by any back issues, which is common amongst golfers. If she does experience any niggles whilst playing golf, or in any other part of her life, she knows she can get past it a lot more quickly by working through it with Pilates.

PILATES REMINDS ME TO BREATHE

Kate started Pilates as a Uni student, to help loosen things up and give her head a break. As she progressed through it she realised just how great it was and Pilates became a core part of her exercise program.

She feels that Pilates has made a big difference in her life, even with the little things, like waiting in the supermarket line, are her shoulders back and down, are her knees locked, is she breathing properly?

PILATES COMPLIMENTS MY WORK AND GYM

Anne-Marie works as a theatre nurse and spends 9-10 hours per day standing on a concrete floor wearing heavy lead vests. She finds that on the days that she does Pilates her back does not hurt like it usually does. Through regular Pilates practice, she has improved her body alignment and can use her core correctly enabling her to lift patients and equipment in a safer and easier way.

When she’s at the gym, she really thinks about the movement before she starts and has learnt how to protect her back while working out. Anne-Marie says that Pilates has improved her quality of life when it comes to work.

PILATES GAVE ME MOVEMENT BACK POST MASTECTOMY

Janelle started Pilates to regain movement in her upper body after a mastectomy and also to improve her core strength as this also suffered as a result of the surgery.

As a result of regular Pilates practice, she feels freer and has more movement when performing day-to-day activities.

PILATES HELPED REALIGN ME POST HIP OPERATION

Grainne started doing studio Pilates after a double hip operation about 12 months ago. She sought out a studio on the recommendation of her rehab physiotherapist who suggested that she do more intensive Pilates work to regain proper hip mobility and use.

Grainne said that she had been misaligned for many years and had a personal goal of being able to enjoy walking freely once more. Through her regular Pilates practice, she has strengthened her core muscles and become more even and is finally feeling more aligned.

PILATES HAS HAD A POSITIVE IMPACT ON MY LIFE

Jonas is an art director and as a result spends a lot of time at his computer. He started doing Pilates as a way to help with the back pain that was constantly plaguing him. He was unable to drive or even go to the cinema without pain in his back.

4 years of Pilates practice has strengthened his core and he no longer suffers from chronic back pain. He is happy in his life because of Pilates and thinks that the breathing helps his mind as well.
