Pilates Alliance Australasia (PAA)

The Pilates Alliance Australasia (PAA) is the largest Pilates professional association in Australia and is an independent and not-for-profit organisation established by the Pilates industry as a regulatory body for control of quality instruction, member support and integrity within all legitimate approaches to the Pilates Method.

The PAA believes in an open approach to regulation and strives to ensure protection of the general public, industry employees and studios, whilst continuing to foster the original intentions of the Pilates Method. The PAA mission is to advance the interests of the Pilates industry, and promote the discipline to the general public and other allied health professionals.

Australian Pilates Method Association (APMA)

The Australian Pilates Method Association (APMA) established in 1995, is Australia's peak not for profit Pilates representative body. All members have completed the full teacher training program and a rigorous examination process

Its vision is to communicate the power and the passion of Pilates. Its primary goal is to achieve recognition of the method at government and health fund level and accreditation for qualified practitioners. It also makes a major contribution to the Pilates education and training curriculum and is a keen and active proponent of professional ethics and standards.

Claiming your session through your health fund 

Pilates Instructors who are registered with the peak professional bodies are also recognized by a number of private health insurance companies. This means that you may be eligible to get a rebate for your Pilates sessions.

Not all private health insurance companies recognize Pilates and some recognize Pilates only if you are referred to do it through your treating GP or physiotherapist.

It is recommended that you double check with your private health insurance company if they do recognize Pilates and what you need to do to qualify for a rebate.
